Looking for EWP hire near you? You’re in the right place. Here at Diggermate, we specialise in providing scissor lifts, boom lifts and spider lifts. We have flexible, and cost-effective solutions for all your elevated work platform needs. One of our most popular offerings is the electric scissor lift, the perfect solution for most access jobs up to 10m on relatively flat surfaces. Not sure whether you need a cherry picker or a scissor lift? Read on, and we will help you decide.

Scissor Lifts

Scissor lifts provide vertical access with a scissor-like lifting mechanism, making them versatile for various job sites. There are two main types:

  • Rough Terrain Scissor Lifts: Designed for uneven ground with foam-filled tyres and 4WD or excavator-like tracks for tough site conditions. Available in electric and diesel models.
  • Slab Scissor Lifts: Ideal for flat surfaces with non-marking tires and compact chassis for narrow aisles. Typically battery-powered, suitable for indoor/outdoor use.

When to Choose a Scissor Lift: Scissor lifts are ideal for tasks requiring vertical access directly underneath the work area, such as cladding, curtain walling, and building maintenance. They provide a stable platform for tools and materials.

Cherry Picker

Cherry pickers, or boom lifts, offer height access and outreach over obstacles. They come in several types:

  • Articulated Cherry Pickers: Provide “up and over” access, ideal for working around obstacles.
  • Telescopic Cherry Pickers: Extend telescopically for greater reach, suitable for very high work areas.
  • Spider Cherry Pickers: Equipped with tracks and outriggers for stability on uneven ground.

When to Choose a Cherry Picker: Cherry pickers are better for accessing work areas with obstacles or uneven ground. They provide significant outreach and are useful when the work area is not directly accessible from below.
